A sensor is a device that detects changes in physical, electrical, or chemical qualities and generates an electrical output in reaction to such changes in the field of instrumentation and process control. In terms of process control, sensors can be divided into passive and active categories. Unlike an active sensor, a passive sensor needs an external power source to function.
