Sealants are made to fill up spaces between surfaces and keep things like dust, water, and debris out. In general, adhesives are designed to bind two surfaces together so that they cannot be separated. A sealant often has a lower strength than an adhesive and has a different function. Sealants are frequently used to close gaps and stop the surfaces to which they are applied from moving apart. Although they are typically stronger, sealants give the assembly far more flexibility than adhesives.
