Relays are electrically driven switches that can be used in conjunction with one or more low-power signals to regulate a circuit. They are made up of one or more sets of contacts, an armature, a spring, and an electromagnet. The armature is moved by an electric current flowing through the electromagnet, which creates a magnetic field that controls the associated circuit by opening or closing the contacts. Relays are frequently used to isolate and safeguard the controlling device in situations where it's necessary to operate a high-power circuit using a low-power signal.
