Ultrasonic flow meters are instruments that use ultrasonic sound waves to measure a fluid's flow rate. They function by transferring an ultrasonic signal through the fluid and measuring the signal's transit time between two sensors. The two primary kinds are Doppler and transit-time. While Doppler meters use the frequency shift of the reflected waves to determine flow rate, transit-time meters measure the difference in journey times of ultrasonic waves flowing with and against the flow. These meters are well-known for their precision, lack of intrusiveness, and capacity to be used with a variety of fluids, including ones with different viscosities and particle counts.
