A hydrometer is a device that measures a liquid's specific gravity, or density, in relation to water. Usually, it is made out of a graded glass tube that can float upright in a liquid thanks to a weighted bulb at the bottom. The density of the liquid is shown by the level at which the hydrometer floats. Hydrometers are frequently used to measure the concentration of chemicals dissolved in liquids, like sugar or alcohol, in the winemaking, brewing, and other industries.
