All but the most advanced function generators are incapable of producing pulses for the stimulation and control of electronic systems. A specialised pulse generator's architecture enables it to produce pulses of a specific width regardless of the repetition rate, with duty cycles that can go as low as 1 in 100 million. In addition to continuous operation, trigger or gating signals with carefully defined temporal relationships can result in the generation of a single or several pulses. Flat top pulses with quick rise and fall times at adjustable amplitude are provided by a dedicated pulse-waveform output amplifier.
