Mitutoyo's mechanical outside micrometer has a ratchet thimble that ensures a smoother, continuous measuring force on the spindle for accurate, repeatable measurements. When measuring a wide variety of varied dimensions or for easier, one-handed measurements, the combination of the ratchet thimble and speeder allows for a rapid spindle feed. Both the thimble and the speeder have ratchet capabilities, allowing for one-handed operation. Carbide measuring faces on the spindle and anvil resist wear, allowing surfaces to remain flatter and more accurate for longer. Thermal expansion is minimized by a heat-insulated frame, allowing for consistent measurements in a variety of situations. A speeder is always accessible for rapid spindle rotation.
